The insulation of dangerous electric poles has strated23.07.2013
On the 17 of July 2013, we have started the insulation of the dangerous for the Egyptian Vultures electric poles. 10 of them were secured. The safety bars are in close proximity to the Egyptian vultures nest, that we are regularly observing with camera in Northeast Bulgaria. It is planned a total of 43 pillars to be isolated on this line. Isolation of the electric poles is critical to protect the population of Egyptian vultures in northern Bulgaria.
The line is considered to be particularly dangerous because it is located in a vast plain area with mosaic located arable fields and pastures. And when the juvenile Egyptian vultures make their first flight there is no place for rest, they can become easily a victim of the dangerous electric poles.
Isolation of the pillars is done by Energo-Pro under a memorandum for cooperation with BSPB and the insulators were bought within the BSPB project LIFE + "The Return of the Neophron”.
After a series of studies in 2012, we mapped 5200 electric poles and identified the most dangerous ones for the Egyptian vultures. The insulation is one of the most important direct conservation project activities. Nearly 600 poles near the nests of endangered species have been isolated on various projects of the BSPB in Bulgaria.
